This is why I always advise against buying a water heater from Lowe’s or Home Depot.  this water heater has been in service since October and both elements are fried because the bottom thermostat wasn’t functioning properly.
Appliances and fixtures from retailers are not the same as equipment from wholesalers.

This is a before and after of a tankless changeout. If you look closely the original was hooked up with no isolation valves (so the original unit was unserviceable) and the original gas valve was on the wrong side of the gas regulator (making the regulator unserviceable). We also did this on short notice for a customer because I hate to hear someone took a cold shower.
