Got a 3 stall in need of some decent repairs. This garage had two areas completely failed all the way down to the rebar! We hammered everything out and also hammered around the areas to listen for hollow and sound areas. After that, we cleaned and then filled them with epoxy. These were probably close to 2” deep, so we needed something to be able to handle filling something so deep and bond correctly.

After that cured we ground it flat and then installed my primer and then my intermediate coat and then my polyaspartic top coat to finish it off!

Small 1 stall we just completed in Kalamazoo! Brand new floor, client wanted a coating that would not only last but be easy to clean up! Easy task for us!

Shot blasted for preparation, we filled the joints that had plastic zip strips when the concrete was poured and we then put down our low viscosity epoxy primer. This is designed to pe*****te deep into the pores, this coat is designed specifically to do just that. We then go over wet on wet with our 100% solids epoxy intermediate coat. This coat is designed to bond to the primer and then create a thick base for the flake to sink into and bond. Primers are incredibly important and most companies skip this part. Overall a stronger and thicker system resisting peeling and failure. There is zero chance doing this process and I guarantee it!

When choosing a company make sure they know what to do if you know you have moisture issues or it is a possibly. This is an example of two things.

First, why you don’t use epoxy top coat in a space that will see UV rays. Epoxy is not UV stable and will amber (first picture) eventually. Sometimes almost right away others it can take longer.

Second, if you don’t put down the proper product when moisture is an issue picture 2 is what will eventually happen. When a coating comes up like this something has gone wrong. If installed properly, with the proper products for the floor, concrete should come up and be attached to the coating and ONLY if physically damaged or manually removed. In this case, the customer is near a body of water and they have moisture that comes up through the concrete when the water table rises. When this happens the coating does not bond to the pores of the concrete like it should, as seen in the picture, and eventually will fail. Moisture can also cause bubbling under the coating as well.

Prep is so very important when installing this type of flooring to get a proper bond. However, knowing what type of product needs to be used and being able to identify issues like moisture is equally as important.

We were called to fix a floor for a customer a couple of weeks ago from a different company. This floor had multiple coats on it in an attempt to fix problems that arose. In the end the coating ambered and had thin and thick spots throughout. This is a look into what goes into removing a previous coating and why we tell our customers to do their research when picking any company.
