I’ve always wondered why the display at the store and the pictures on cans of wood stain are always so far off from the actual color of the stain. I now realize it’s so that, if I want to find the right color, I have to have eleven cans of stain instead of just one. That’s a really clever business strategy.

Just built this fire pit. It’s a nice fall week to be working on an outdoor project. I’ll take it where I can.

Just finished putting the North side of the house back together. I’ve installed new windows, better insulation, new sheathing and new siding. That only puts me about halfway around the house but all of the most difficult and visible stuff is now done. On to the next thing.

I knew the warning labels on automotive batteries said they might explode but I didn’t think they actually did it! I was trying to start my Jacobsen G, which has the battery on the floorboard to the left of the driver’s seat, and that thing popped right under my legs.
