So what happens when you own a craftsman style home but you want more of an open concept? You hire me! This job I removed two load barring walls and reframed them with new headers. I also removed one longer non load barring wall and installed a header to match. I also patched the floor with walnut. Trying to match an existing floor seems to never quite come out right and since the two floor were different heights, different colors and running different directions might as well put in a border. I cut the flooring ends “freehand” and I’m so pleased with it. I think it turned out awesome 💪. Sanded down one side of the walnut to the match the existing flooring and built transitions to connect the floor which was higher. The home owners BF is a former contractor so he is going to texture and paint. He is also installing a zero space fireplace you can see in the picture. I can’t wait to take pictures of when everything is all done. I also poured a new footer in the basement with a 4x4 beam to support the new load. Truly a job that challenged all of my skills. But super satisfying walking away knowing the homeowner is happy with how it turned out.
