Ever cup your hands under the sink and find water that looks like milk? Before you panic, in Spokane, cloudy tap water is usually harmless.
Here are the 3 most common reasons:

1. Trapped Air
Pressure changes trap tiny micro-bubbles in your pipes. If a glass of water clears from bottom to top in a couple of minutes, it’s just air and safe to drink.

2. Hard Water Minerals
High levels of calcium and magnesium can make water look murky and leave chalky white buildup around your faucets and showerheads.

3. Pipe Sediment
Pressure spikes or nearby work can stir up loose rust and silt. Flushing your cold tap for 5–10 minutes usually clears it out.

What is a “blister” inside or Orangeburg pipe?

A blister inside an Orangeburg pipe is a localized bubble or protrusion created when wastewater penetrates the inner layers of the pipe’s coal-tar pitch coating and wood pulp fiber matrix. Because Orangeburg pipe—commonly installed from the 1940s through the 1970s—is made of compressed paper fiber saturated with pitch, continuous moisture exposure eventually causes the layers to delaminate and swell inward over time. These inward blisters narrow the interior diameter of the sewer line, creating rough surfaces that snag toilet paper and debris, ultimately leading to chronic clogs, structural flattening, and eventual complete collapse of the line.
