Our Spokane Friends & Family,
I’d first like to start this post off as sensitively as I possibly can. As these fires that have turned Spokane upside down begin to be put out and Spokane life begins to return to normal, whatever that even means anymore, we must remember that “moving forward” means something completely different for everyone now.
We have been in communication with our insurance to see how we best can go about helping, and everything is still very much up in the air with no real clear path. Spokane may feel like a big city, but we really aren’t. We have to band together, look past differences, and realize we are all apart of what makes Spokane so great and beautiful.
We were disgusted to read the interview from the suspected arsonist, especially when he said how beautiful fire was. It bugged me for days and days. How can you say something like that, when all of this destruction has changed so many lives and cause countless families to wonder what their futures look like.
But then it hit me. There can be no beauty in this fire. Not yet. The beautiful part can be how we choose to move forward. We can squabble, yell blame, point fingers.
OR
We can see that this affected us all. We can push everything else to the side and band together. Show the world that Spokane is strong, and no matter what, we persevere through anything, together.
I saw a post yesterday that disheartened me, and discouraged me when it comes to business. I saw a small business, that I will not name, that made a post about a yard sign they had put up, and someone immediately snapped a photo, and began blasting them online for trying to do business at a time like this. I can understand that point of view, I really can.
But please remember, small businesses struggle every single day.
When a small business doesn’t make money in a day, a week, a month, what does that do to that business? Who owns that business? How many employees rely on that business? Was their home burnt in the fire?
Is the business owner desperate? We do not know everyone’s life situation or financial situation. Please remember that, and let’s try our very best to give people the benefit of the doubt instead of just assuming they are trying to make as much money as possible out of a tragedy. Because I promise you, that’s is almost NEVER the case from a small business. If anything, the amount of support and help I have seen from small Spokane businesses who are doing anything and everything they can to help, has been one of those beautiful moments that I choose to see out of these 2026 fires.
TMD Junk has received our Yard Signs, and have begun putting up our signs around town, not to try and take advantage of anyone, but because we are small business owners, who have family who rely on us, look up to us. I wish we all worked for fun, but sadly that just isn’t the case.
