I suggest watering every night this week. It’s also a good idea to water for a short while in the middle of the day this week and on extremely hot days cooling the grass, soil and roots. Grass ‘hardens off’ each year at the onset of hot weather. It’s a perfectly natural response for grass to go dormant at this time if inadequate water is present. This causes ‘dead’ areas that take tons of water to bring back in the long run. This is the week this will happen and there’s no more important time to water adequately. After it hardens off, grass can handle the upcoming summer. Until then an 85 degree day is like a 100 degree day. A 95 degree day can be particularly damaging to a lawn that hasn’t hardened off. Bottom line: give your lawn watering some thought this week!
