Inland Northwest AGC Apprenticeship

Inland Northwest AGC Apprenticeship Mike Ankney, current Apprenticeship Director. AGC APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS

One of the major issues facing our industry today is a shortage of skilled workers.

The Inland Northwest AGC is a membership organization dedicated to furthering the ever changing agenda of commercial construction contractors, with a heavy focus on apprenticeship programs. Founded in 1921, the Inland Northwest chapter is the regions largest full-service commercial construction trade association and is one of 95 chapters of the Associated General Contractors of America. Representi

ng over 275 companies throughout our region, the AGC has been the organization of choice for those associated with the construction industry for more than 90 years and continues to serve as the voice of the construction industry. AGC members construct commercial and public buildings, airports, shopping centers, factories and industrial plants, schools, dams and flood control facilities, highways, roads and bridges, ports, public transit, underground facilities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, multifamily housing projects, military and defense related facilities, rail and transit facilities, tunnels, housing developments and mining operations. Workforce development must be a priority for all employers in the construction industry or the problem will only get worse. To that end, the Inland Northwest AGC is pleased to offer two Open Shop Apprenticeship Programs for its members - Carpenters & Heavy Equipment Operators. Heavy Equipment Operators Apprenticeship Program

This program provides both hands-on and classroom training in all aspects of equipment operation, maintenance and safety. Students are required to complete 200 hours per year of related supplemental instruction and 6,000 work hours before graduating the program as a journey-level operator. Carpenters Apprenticeship Program

Carpenter Apprentices will complete 160 of training per year in everything from blueprint reading to building layout to finish work. Carpenter Apprentices must complete 5,200-8,000 hours of on-the-job training. Both programs provide apprentices with comprehensive safety training.

Here's what one of Industry Partners has to say. Thanks Faber Construction for partnering with our programs to train our future workforce!!!

If you want to jump into the construction industry but feel like you don't have all the knowledge you need, an apprenticeship program is the perfect place to start! Hear what some of our graduates have to say:

" I had very little experience in construction when I started the apprenticeship. The program taught me many things that I had not seen or done before. We spent a lot of time learning how to study/read prints, which is extremely useful now. I think the apprenticeship helped put me on the 'fast track' to the position I'm currently in" - Adam Burke, Construction Superintendent, Journeyman Carpenter Graduate

"The on-the-job hours in the apprenticeship program helped me to build my experience in the industry. Classroom and lab time helped me to understand some of the more complicated parts of carpentry, such as stair building. The apprenticeship program provides a good way to work and learn at the same time, to become a more valued employee, and to better understand the industry." - Shawn Leyenhorst, Construction Foreman, Journeyman Carpenter Graduate

"I was able to gain a more in-depth understanding of plans, and the material take-off and estimate exercises were also helpful." - Will Kingma, Construction Foreman, Journeyman Carpenter Graduate
