There is a point where a clogged gutter stops being a clogged gutter and becomes a planter. Pine needles pack down, hold moisture, catch a seed, and by summer there is something green growing up there.

If a plant can root in it, water is not moving through it, and the fascia underneath has been staying wet for months.

Not all gutter guards are the same product. The cheap ones are plastic screens with holes big enough for pine needles, and they clog from the top instead of the inside.

Stainless micro-mesh has openings small enough that debris sits on the surface and blows off, while water still passes through. That is the whole difference, and it is why one lasts and one gets pulled off in two years.

Wednesday joke, then something actually useful.

Pine needles are the worst debris a Florida gutter deals with. They are thin enough to slip through most cheap screens, then they mat together into a felt layer that holds water like a sponge. Leaves you can scoop. Needles knit.
