🍂 5 SIGNS YOUR HOME ISN’T READY FOR A WEST MICHIGAN WINTER ❄️

Fall is right around the corner, which means now is the perfect time to take a look at your home before the cold settles in.

Here are 5 things homeowners should watch for:

🏠 1. Cold Rooms
One room noticeably colder than the rest of the house could be a sign of inadequate insulation or air leakage.

💨 2. Drafty Windows & Doors
If you can feel cold air coming through, your home may be losing more energy than you realize.

🔥 3. Your Furnace Runs Constantly
A heating system working overtime can sometimes mean your home isn't holding onto the heat efficiently.

🧊 4. Cold Floors & Ceilings
Unusually cold floors, ceilings, or exterior walls can indicate areas where heat is escaping.

💸 5. Rising Energy Bills
If your energy bills keep climbing while your usage hasn't changed much, your home's insulation and air sealing may be worth checking.

🍁 DON'T WAIT FOR THE FIRST SNOW.

A little preparation now can make a big difference when West Michigan weather turns cold.

KNOWLEDGE CORNER: OPEN CELL vs. CLOSED CELL SPRAY FOAM

Not all spray foam is created equal. Understanding the difference between open-cell and closed-cell can help you choose the right insulation for your home or building.

🔵 OPEN CELL
• More budget-friendly
• Excellent sound control
• Expands to fill gaps and hard-to-reach areas
• Great for attics, interior walls and larger cavities
• Approximately R-3.5–R-3.7 per inch

🟡 CLOSED CELL
• Higher R-value per inch
• Excellent air and moisture resistance
• Adds rigidity and structural strength
• Great for basements, exterior walls, roofs and high-moisture areas
• Approximately R-6–R-7 per inch

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Open cell is a great choice when sound control and value are priorities. Closed cell delivers higher insulation performance, moisture resistance and added durability.

At Third Coast Spray Foam, we can help you determine which insulation system makes the most sense for your project.

Our Third Coast Spray Foam crew is currently finishing up work at the Odawa Tribe’s hatchery here in Northern Michigan, and we couldn’t be more grateful to be a small part of this incredible project.

A hatchery helps raise and protect fish before they’re released into local waterways, supporting healthy fish populations and helping preserve Michigan’s natural resources for generations to come.

We’re truly honored to bring our insulation expertise to a project that supports the Odawa Tribe, conservation, and the future of our waterways.

Thank you to the Odawa Tribe for trusting Third Coast Spray Foam. We’re proud of our crew and grateful to be part of something that matters right here in Northern Michigan. 🐟🤝
