Our team is excelling vigorously in the development of this 15-acre commercial site! The location features two gravity retaining walls, two segmental walls, two permanent wet basins, an 8-inch water main extension, an 8-inch sewer extension, and several storm drain installations.

This project holds significant meaning for us in various ways. Over 30 years ago, my grandfather purchased this land with the intention of developing it, and since then, all three generations have contributed to its evolution. My grandfather initiated the development of the residential portion of Forest Ridge, while Ken Smith and his brother Alden Smith play the role from a developer's perspective. Kenneth Smith Jr., PE PLS serves as the site engineer, and I (little Alden) manage the grading and utilities for this particular project. We have been blessed in numerous ways, and that blessing continues. I am grateful for the chance to work alongside my family to bring this project to life. It truly feels like a full circle journey. We are hiring!!! Odell Smith & Sons has been a local grading and utility contractor since 1960 employing many of it employees for 20+ years. We work as a family to get each and every job complete, while making sure loved ones make it home safely everyday.

Currently, we are looking to hire on a pipe foreman with two or more years in utility work (water, sewer, & storm drain). This job includes reading plans, operating a excavator, checking grade, reading cut fills, setting up a laser, using a line up tool, and being able to lead a crew of four or more people.

Skills we are looking for: good communication, good attitude, works well with others, not shy of physical labor, practices safety, willingness to step up, willingness to listen, can setup laser, can read grade, concrete experience, and willing to take responsibility for their actions.

Heavy equipment operators are to preform daily inspections on their machines before running them.

We are looking to hire grade guys and or labors for our grading division. We are interested in people that can operate skid steers, dozers, excavators, rollers, haul trucks and tractor pans efficiently. Mostly, we are seeking individuals willing to learn, grow, and are dependable at their everyday task.

This job will include working outside, physical labor, checking your machine daily, letting your foreman know about any issues, showing up on time, lifting over 50+ lbs, and willingness to work as a team.

It helps, but is not necessary. If you can reading plans, grade stakes, know how to set up curb, setting up roadways, parking lots, setting stone, preparing subgrade, running GPS (optional), and operate machines efficiently.

Crews are getting ready to pour curb on a 64 lot subdivision in Hopemills, NC. Despite the site not originally being designed for padded lots, our team was able to leverage the extra fill from the streets and pond to provide our developer with 24 pad ready lots. Our commitment to valued engineering allows us to better serve our clients by taking advantage of opportunities that can enhance their projects. Two of our crews making huge progress on this Hopemills site. Trevor’s crew is wrapping up on a permanent pond and Tony’s guys are finishing the utilities on this 67 lot subdivision for Ben Stout Construction. Nice work everyone!
