Much of the stuff I burned up yesterday I had been saving for 25 to 40 years, much of it only a fellow restorer/upholster’ of furniture would even be interested in. The plan for me is still to leave from this area in the Midwest spend some time on the road, maybe a month maybe a lot more on my way to live in California where I have family who wants to be closer, that’s everything. But I have tons of furniture and antiques to still move and much of it is going to be just thrown away or burned. I thought maybe the interest in antiques would have turned around, but it has only steadily gotten worse since I left Nebraska 26 years ago. I hope the love of simple antiques as a resurgence someday. Peace.

Escutcheons like these, can make the peace. Reproductions are of course better than using modern hardware, but nothing beats the old solid brass hardware. And it’s not so much that you want these to be noticed, but rather you don’t, you want them just to blend in and compliment not distract.

The finish. Did a little carving repair, just enough to hopefully not make it noticeable. Use the clear shellac, which should provide plenty of protection, and it can be reversed at any time.
