There is no more pleasure for a polished concrete contractor than seeing the final result of his job, especially when the interior is complete. That was a challenging project. The floor was coated with epoxy and had concrete slabs with different hardness. The situation when you have 3500 PSI and almost 5500 PSI is tricky. Diamond tools glaze on hard concrete and wear out too fast on soft slabs. Knowing your diamond tools is the key to making the project go smoothly and on time. As we all know, floor flatness and level are crucial factors for installing racks or lifts. The floor had to be extremely flat so that when the lift went from ground level up to the top, it was still aligned with the racks.

This floor had an inch gap on a 6-foot straight edge. Instead of removing the poorly poured slab and pouring the new one, we offered the GC to polish the concrete to make it flat. Polished concrete will flatten the original surface due to the grinding and honing process, which removes imperfections and creates a smooth surface.

Not a secret that 6000 PSI concrete takes work to grind. The #30 grit diamond tools are glazing and take a lot of time to grind. As a result, we decided to go a different route. Various techniques and specialized equipment used during the polishing process helped to get this 2000 SF project done in 2 days.

For this project, we proposed polished concrete since it can handle the weight of forklifts and other heavy machinery. Polished concrete can withstand extreme wear and tear and repel water. Even with a mirror-like gloss finish, it stays slip-resistant. Most importantly, the sealer improves stain resistance and gives additional gloss. It is hard to imagine flooring that has both long-term and short-term benefits. In the long run, maintenance costs are also low. Increased ambient lighting will reduce energy bills.
