🚨 LOOK AT THIS EVAPORATOR COIL!

We saw this heavily corroded evaporator coil on a service call today, and I wanted to share it with our customers because this is something homeowners don’t always think about.

At first glance, you may see an old, dirty coil—but look closer. The aluminum fins and tubing are showing significant corrosion, and corrosion like this can eventually lead to weakened metal, refrigerant leaks, and ultimately coil failure.

So where do VOCs come into the picture?

VOCs = Volatile Organic Compounds.

These are gases released by many everyday products and materials inside our homes—things like:

• Paints and finishes
• Flooring and adhesives
• Furniture and cabinets
• Cleaning products
• Air fresheners and fragrances
• Certain plastics and building materials

The process of these materials releasing chemicals into the air is called off-gassing.

And here’s the part many homeowners don’t realize:

Your HVAC system is constantly circulating the air inside your home.

Certain airborne contaminants can interact with moisture and metal surfaces inside the HVAC system. In some environments, this can contribute to corrosion of evaporator coils, especially when combined with high humidity and other contaminants.

⚠️ Important: You can’t look at a corroded coil and definitively say, “VOCs caused this.” Coil corrosion can have multiple causes, including humidity, chemicals, salt/chlorides, household contaminants, and the specific materials used in the coil.

But this is a great reminder that indoor air quality and HVAC maintenance go hand in hand.

A corroded coil isn’t just an appearance issue. As corrosion progresses, it can eventually result in refrigerant leaks, loss of cooling capacity, higher operating costs, and an expensive repair or replacement.

👀 Don’t wait until your AC stops cooling to have your system inspected.

At Northland Air Conditioning, we look beyond whether your system is simply “running.” We look at the condition of the equipment and what could potentially cause problems down the road.

Another service call. Another lesson for homeowners.
Take care of your HVAC system, and it’ll take care of your home. 🏠❄️

🏠 Congratulations to another happy customer on their NEW 16 SEER high-efficiency AC system! ❄️🎉

We want to give this homeowner (Damien and Danielle Penn) a BIG credit for making the right decision—not just for themselves, but for the next family who will call this house home. It’s a beautiful single story house perfect for a big family.

Since they were selling the home, they could have simply put a “Band-Aid” on the existing system and moved on. Instead, they chose to invest in a brand-new, high-efficiency system so the new homeowners could enjoy better efficiency, reliable comfort, and peace of mind from day one. 👏

That says a lot about the kind of people they are and the pride they take in their home.

Congratulations on the new system, and thank you for trusting Northland Air Conditioning to get the job done right! 🇺🇸

One more home upgraded. One more family set up for comfort.

Northland air conditioning wants to share some hot topics of discussion this year from their customers

💧 Dehumidifier vs. UV Light: What’s Better for Mold Control?

When it comes to improving indoor air quality, moisture control and air treatment are two very different things.

🏠 DEHUMIDIFIERS — CONTROL THE ENVIRONMENT

Mold needs moisture to grow. A whole-home dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air and helps maintain a healthier indoor humidity level.

By controlling humidity, a dehumidifier can:

• Reduce the moisture mold needs to grow
• Help prevent mold and mildew from developing
• Reduce that damp, musty feeling
• Protect your home and furnishings from excessive humidity
• Make your AC system work more efficiently in humid conditions

☀️ UV LIGHTS — TREAT THE AIR

UV-C lights work differently. They don’t remove moisture from your home. Instead, when properly installed and sized, UV-C can help reduce certain microorganisms that are exposed to the UV light, particularly on HVAC coils and in the air stream.

But here’s the important distinction:

A UV light doesn’t fix the moisture problem that allows mold to grow in the first place.

🥊 SO WHICH ONE IS STRONGER?

Think of it this way:

Dehumidifier = Prevention & Moisture Control 💧
It attacks one of the biggest factors that allows mold to thrive: excess moisture.

UV Light = Air & HVAC Surface Treatment ☀️
It helps control certain microorganisms that pass through or are exposed to the UV-C light.

🤝 THE BEST DUO?

Why choose between them?

Use both.

A dehumidifier helps keep the environment dry and less favorable for mold growth, while UV-C provides an additional layer of microbial control inside the HVAC system.

Control the moisture. Treat the air. Protect the system.

That’s a much more complete approach to indoor air quality than relying on either technology alone.
