🟢 Most likely ($150–$500): clogged filter, dirty condenser coils, blown capacitor, or low refrigerant. About 60% of calls.

🟡 Mid-range ($800–$2,500): refrigerant leak repair, fan motor, blower motor, control board. About 25% of calls.

🔴 Replacement territory ($7,500+): compressor failure, R-22 system with major leak, stacked failures on an older system. About 12-15% of calls.

Before you call ANYONE, try these 4 things first:

So… Do you repair or just replace? 🤔

Most homeowners get a totally different answer depending on which HVAC company they call. Some push replacement aggressively (bigger commission).

Others recommend repair after repair until your unit becomes a money pit. Neither is honest.

Here's the rule we actually use with every Spring TX customer:

If a single repair tops $5,000 OR you've spent $5K+ on repairs in the last 24 months replacement is almost always the smarter move.

Especially now in 2026 with R-410A refrigerant prices roughly DOUBLE what they were in 2023.
What changed?
