🚰 1. Protect Yourself from Hot Tap Water
Before placing your hands under the faucet, run the water for 30–60 seconds.
During extreme heat, water sitting in pipes located in attics or inside walls can become hot enough to cause burns, especially for children.
🔥 2. Prevent Water Heater Pilot Problems
High attic temperatures can reduce fresh airflow, which may cause a gas water heater pilot light to go out.
To help prevent this:
Clear debris from attic vents and soffit vents.
Make sure fresh air can flow freely through your attic.
If your attic access is in the garage, slightly crack the garage door open when it's safe to do so to improve airflow.
❄️ 3. Keep A/C Condensate Drains Flowing
If your A/C drain line connects to a bathroom (lavatory) sink:
Fill the sink with water once a week and let it drain completely.
This helps flush algae buildup from the P-trap.
If you notice water backing up into the sink or tub even though it hasn't been used, the drain may be clogged with algae and should be serviced.
