This is a general diagram for installing rip rap erosion control along ponds and bodies of water. Each scenario is unique.

Firstly the bank is shaped with a toe cut in to create a foothold for the rip rap. Without it the rip rap can slide down and mix into the soft pond bottom over time.

Geotextile fabric is then installed to separate the dirt from the stone. We order in a made in U.S.A. heavy weight fabric for this that we unfortunately cannot source locally.

Next, a bedding stone is installed to protect the fabric from both UV rays and the rip rap armor stones tearing the fabric. Finally, the bedding stone creates a base for the rip rap armor stones to sit on.

All of this prolongs the life of the rip rap and creates a better product than simply laying fabric down then covering with rip rap.

The reason we offer this system is from the owner’s commercial background and installing thousands of tons of this product in engineered projects. Plus, we too often are asked to repair rip rap previously installed in the fashion of only fabric and armor stones, which requires costly removal of the old rip rap and starting fresh from a dirt base.

Most commercial plans call for heavier lifts, sometimes up to 20” of bedding stone and 24” of armor stone. Most residential wants are budget friendly. So we reduced the quantities to find an affordable middle ground for a great residential product that we can confidently place our name on after installing.

Each estimate/contract we sign has the owner’s name and signature on it as well, representing his commitment to quality work as a small owner operator business where the owner often performs the contracted work by himself as he builds a small business doing what he enjoys and finds as his hobbies.

This is our Cat 953. These machines are less common in this area of the Midwest, if not the country. They’re made in France, and have multi-purpose use.

With being a mix of a bulldozer and front end loader, it is capable of many tasks including dirt grading, moving material, preparing sites, land clearing, and pretty much “you name it”. We can even dig a small pond with it.

Dredging and moving material with our Cat 953. We floated our 65k pound machine on some timber like Mark Twain to deepen a cove. Some dredged material was sandy while other material was a rich black dirt that will dry and be used for dirt grading.

This was an awesome project and great opportunity to transform this property into a natural and private landscape. Plus, we solved some drainage issues.

A geothermal system presented a challenge in dirt grading so we found an attractive solution by creating a drainage path routed around them.

Further on this project, we removed the years of layered rock around the pond perimeter, excavated a swimming hole, and added a beach.

Finally, we took the extra dirt and created natural privacy berms to give contours and seclude this property.

Here we put in over 650 feet of underground drainage tile to remedy ground water issues on this property.

Most water sheds on the ground surface but there is also water moving(or trapped from moving) underground.

In many scenarios dirt grading is not enough to remedy ground water issues. That is when drainage tile becomes the answer.

We used made in the U.S.A. 🇺🇸 Geotextile Fabric and a whole lot of quarry gravel in a wide trench to ensure the longevity of this drainage tile.

Plus, we tied in the house gutters to this tile to keep everything buried and neat around the house.

This is our CAT 324EL Super Long Reach. It has a maximum 60 feet 6 inches of reach and can dig to depths of 48 feet. Operating weight is 65,000 pounds. When paired with an experienced, knowledgeable, and efficient operator, it can move a lot of material from hard to reach places.
