We have a wonderful partnership with Individual Advocacy Group this year called Grow With the New Me. Individual Advocacy Group offers day programming (and many other activities!) to individuals with intellectual disabilities in their care.

Miss Alana, our amazing education coordinator, has welcomed individuals into our garden three days each week starting at the beginning of May and has led a variety of garden programming, as she notes below:

IAG programming is off to a great start! Individuals have planted wheelchair accessible beds 2-6 with a variety of crops and they check the progress in the beds during each session, watering and weeding if needed. Cabbage and lettuce transplants are getting bigger, tiny carrots are growing nicely, and melon seeds have sprouted. They look forward to harvesting when the time is right!

Participants have also gotten their exercise while touring the Enos Park Neighborhood Gardens. They enjoyed picking ripe strawberries, learning about all of the different areas in the space, and going inside the new greenhouse!

A total of 9 participants and 6 chaperones have attended sessions.

Congratulations to Millie for winning our Storybook Contest for May! Millie won two free passes to Kidzeum!

We are open today from 9-11 am for visitors and volunteers, with our Eat A Rainbow class beginning at 10. Our red and black raspberries are open for picking, and they are delicious!

You may have heard, Springfield's north side was hit by a tornado last night. The APL lost the roofs on their buildings, and they are in dire need of folks who can foster animals, especially cats.

You can also give money through their website, and donations of pet food and other supplies are being collected at the Cats Pyjamas downtown. The APL said they will update their page when they get things figured out better in the light of day.

There are likely many residents near the fairgrounds and in Grandview who will need help this morning cutting down and hauling trees to the curb. If you are able, please help. This is our community in action. We're all in it together.

Yeah it's gross outside, but under the big shade tree at the garden with a steady breeze, it's pretty nice! Join us today 9-11 to help our native pollinator efforts. We'll pot up a ton of seedlings, and you can take some home with you. It's a great time to chat about things that matter to us and to take an active role in repairing our ecosystem.

We have some more Pop Up Pollinator Potting Up Parties happening in the next two weeks! We'll meet Wednesday June 10 from 9-11 and Friday June 19 from 9-11 (weather permitting) to take our wee seedlings and put them into bigger pots so they can grow big healthy roots before giving them away.

No experience is needed, and we'll have all the necessary tools and materials on hand. Bring a water bottle, and sit in the shade under the big maple while we chit chat about gardening, life, the universe, and everything. We create the abundance we wish to see in this world!

We are at the garden 9-11 today, harvesting for Kumler Outreach Ministries Food Pantry, mulching our strawberries, and doing some general weeding. Volunteers today get the first pick of the harvest!

Just a reminder, tomorrow we're potting up pollinators under the shade of our big tree from 9-11. Volunteers are welcome to take home a few pollinator plants!

Thank you to the nearly 100 folks who came out Saturday for the Garden Jamboree! It was hot and humid, and still we had a fantastic time!

Many thanks to Gretchen Magruder for heading up the food service portion of our event, and to the volunteers who assisted in serving food. Thanks also to Peaches and Bacon (William and Elizabeth) for playing some excellent music. Thanks to Jerissa, Holden, and Quinn for painting faces. Thanks also to Laikyne Moyer Platt for bringing plaster art for the kids to paint.

Thank you to Lauren Baker for providing drinks and Chad McCarthy for grilling. Thanks to Springfield Art Association for loaning us extra tents for shade. We also appreciate Inner City Mission for providing tents as well as tables. Thanks to Vernon for getting drone footage of the event and the garden, and to Bethany Payne for taking all of these lovely pictures. Thank you to the 20 volunteers who helped get set up and then put away everything, as well as everyone who brought such tasty dishes to share.

Truly it is wonderful to celebrate our amazing community!
