🌳 Our Family Tree — The Story Behind C&S Tree Service LLC
When people see C&S Tree Service LLC today, they often notice the equipment first. The big trucks, grapple trucks, spider lifts, aerial lifts, saws, and all the gadgets that help our crews get the job done safely. We get a lot of compliments on our equipment, and we’re proud of it.
But today, we want to take a minute and talk about what’s behind all that equipment — the people.
Because that’s where the real story of C&S is.
Back in 1980, Clyde & Robin Suttles started C&S with little more than a pickup truck, a couple of saws, and a willingness to work hard. There weren’t big trucks lined up outside. There weren’t spider lifts or all the specialized equipment we have today. There was simply a man trying to build something through hard work, determination, and taking care of his customers.
What started with just 3 employees has grown into a family of 28 employees.
And when we say family, we really mean it.
Among those 28 employees, 22 of us are related . we have 5 parents who get to work alongside their children, A Grandpa that gets to work with 4 of his grandsons. 6 sets of siblings, and 11 cousins. And something we’re especially proud of: the first two employees hired by C&S back in 1980 are still with us today.
Think about that for a minute. More than four decades later, the people who helped us get started are still part of our story.
There have been a lot of changes since 1980. Trucks have gotten bigger. Equipment has gotten more advanced. Jobs that once required ropes, ladders, and a whole lot of muscle can now be done with some pretty amazing machinery.
But the heart of C&S hasn’t changed.
We love this company. We take pride in our work, we take pride in our employees, and we take pride in calling Springfield and Clark County our home.
These aren’t just people who clock in together every morning. They’re parents and children. Brothers and sisters. Cousins. Lifelong friends. People who have watched this company grow and people who are now helping carry it into the next generation.
That’s why our motto means so much to us:

It’s not just something we thought sounded good on a truck or advertisement.
It’s who we are.
When one of our crews pulls into your driveway, there is a good chance you’re looking at family members working side by side. When you call our office, schedule an estimate, see one of our trucks going through Springfield, or trust us with a tree hanging over your home, you’re supporting a local company made up of families who have spent decades building something together.
And while we’re proud of how far we’ve come, we know we didn’t get here by ourselves.
We wouldn’t be celebrating more than four decades in business without the customers who called that little company with a pickup truck and a couple of saws all those years ago. We wouldn’t be here without the generations of families who have called us back, recommended us to their neighbors, waved when our trucks went by, and trusted us with their homes and properties.
Springfield and the surrounding community helped build C&S right alongside us.
From 3 employees to 28.
From a pickup truck and a couple of saws to the equipment you see today.
From one generation to the next.
We’re incredibly proud of where we came from, grateful for where we are today, and excited to see where the next generation takes us.
