In fact, mowing your lawn too short—or scalping it—can actually do more harm than good.

✂️ Cutting too short can:
• Stress and weaken the grass
• Expose the soil to more sunlight and heat
• Allow the soil to dry out faster
• Give weeds more opportunity to take over

For many cool-season lawns, especially tall fescue, keeping your grass around 3.5–4 inches during the summer can help shade the soil, retain moisture, encourage deeper roots, and promote a thicker, healthier lawn.
