The Michigan State Housing Development is lobbying for a $50 Million increase to the property transfer Tax--This would affect all sales of residential and commercial property, and at a time when increased mortgage rates already burden real estate transactions. Currently, MI State transfer tax is $3.75/$500 with an additional $.55./$500 for county tax. This means that with the average Michigan home sale of $228,000, closing costs are increased by an additional $1960 to cover transfer tax.
