The idea of planting brings thoughts of spring. It is still too early to plant shrubs and perennials, but most trees can be planted now as long as the soil is not frozen. It is the ideal time to make plans for early spring plantings. Warm days always trigger the need to get outside so start planning for spring now. March is only a few weeks away and with March begins early landscape maintenance. That means that if we do have an extended warm period in the next couple of weeks you may need to consider putting down a pre-emergent herbicide on your lawn and in your beds earlier than normal. I always watch for the Forsythia to begin blooming as a sign that it is time to get the pre-emergent applied.
