It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague, James Roseberry, on Sunday July 26, 2026. James has been a beloved member of the Trivers family for 25 years, and this is a shock to us all. We hold the thoughts of his wife Lara and his children Emme, Griffin, and Carmen in our very heavy hearts and hope that they are granted peace in this time of losing their beloved husband and father.
James joined Trivers in 2001, and we greatly valued his association with the firm as an integral member with his roles as Director of Sustainability, Associate, and Senior Project Manager. He was a gifted architect, a trusted mentor and a passionate advocate for historic preservation, adaptive reuse and sustainable design. Through his work, he helped strengthen our firm, our profession and the St. Louis community which he loved. His influence can be seen across the region in projects that revitalized historic buildings, expanded affordable housing opportunities and promoted sustainable development, including The Victor, 900 N. Tucker, The Laurel, Clinton-Peabody Affordable Housing and many others. He led with his heart, working to provide his clients the fullest attention and dedication he could.
As a founding member of the Trivers sustainability team, James helped guide the firm's commitment to environmental stewardship and managed Trivers’ contribution in the AIA 2030 Commitment in 2017. He generously shared his expertise through conference presentations and industry leadership roles both locally and on the national stage, including The American Institute of Architects, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Association for Preservation Technology International, and the U.S. Green Building Council where he served as Chair for the USGBC Missouri Gateway Chapter in 2024.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, at his core, James was a kind, patient and generous person. He freely shared his knowledge with those who were curious, encouraged those around him, and believed deeply in using design and sustainability to make people's lives and our planet a better place. Whether mentoring colleagues, collaborating with clients or advocating for his community, James brought thoughtfulness, humility and a genuine desire to make a difference. He was devoted to his family, his profession, his city and the people around him.
As a biking enthusiast, he championed the city he called home by serving on regional bicycle and pedestrian initiatives and spent a decade as a spin instructor at the downtown YMCA years before Peloton was even an idea. His commitment to creating healthier, more sustainable and more connected communities extended far beyond the walls of our office.
James leaves behind a lasting legacy in the places and people he helped shape. His enduring work will continue to enrich our community for generations, while his kindness, dedication and passion will remain an enduring part of the Trivers firm. He will be deeply missed.
