💡 DID YOU KNOW THE LIGHT IN YOUR HOME CAN AFFECT MORE THAN JUST WHAT YOU SEE. 💡
We spend a huge portion of our lives surrounded by artificial light, but did you know that when & what kind of light you’re exposed to can influence your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle?
☀️ DURING THE DAY — GO BRIGHT & COOL
Your body is designed to recognize bright light as a daytime signal.
✔️ Natural sunlight is best.
✔️ Brighter, cooler/whiter lighting works well for kitchens, offices, garages & workspaces.
✔️ Daytime light helps your brain stay alert & helps keep your circadian rhythm on schedule.
🌙 EVENING — DIM & WARM
As evening approaches, your body naturally begins preparing for sleep.
✔️ Choose warmer-colored bulbs. (around 2200K–3000K)
✔️ Dim the lights as bedtime gets closer.
✔️ Use warm lighting in bedrooms, living rooms & hallways.
✔️ Limit bright overhead lighting late at night.
🔵 WHAT ABOUT BLUE/COOL LIGHT?
Cool, blue-enriched light isn’t necessarily “bad.” In fact, it’s useful during the daytime when you want to feel awake and alert.
The problem is bright, blue-enriched light late at night. Exposure to light in the evening can suppress melatonin and interfere with your body’s natural sleep signals.
🌑 AND WHEN IT’S TIME TO SLEEP… DARK IS BEST.
Try to keep bedrooms as dark as possible. Even light from TVs, phones, lamps & other electronics can interfere with the body’s nighttime signals. If you need a nightlight for safety, a dim red or amber light is a better choice than a bright white/blue light.
