If you have a solar array and are considering having or have had a generator installed, you may need to have your solar point of interconnection looked over. A solar array should generally be tied into your electrical system “ahead” of your generator hookup so that the solar does not operate when the generator is in use. Of course there are some specific systems designed to work in tandem but that is generally not the case. It’s a small detail that can often be overlooked when having the generator installed but it can have costly repercussions with the possibility of damaging the generator or the inverters. Leaving off cover plates might not seem like a big deal but it can have serious consequences. Electrical panels and junction boxes are very inviting to mice and insects and can be dangerous not just for them, but yourself as well. It’s also a good way to get a nasty shock should someone’s fingers get a bit too close to the terminals inside. It doesn’t take a qualified electrician to install covers but I just wanted to share some “fun” pictures and a PSA for all of you out there who may have outlets, switches and panels with covers off of them.
