Honored to be part of the team recognized by the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission with a Historic Preservation Award for Institutional Rehabilitation at the Iowa City Senior Center, 28 South Linn Street.

This was a true team effort — and we put our full crew on this project to get it done right and fast. We finished roughly five months ahead of schedule.

The Iowa City Senior Center was honored today 3/25 by the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission!

We received a Historic Preservation Award for Institutional Rehabilitation recognizing the Senior Center at 28 South Linn Street — a building that has held this community for decades and continues to be a place where older adults belong, connect, and thrive.

A huge congratulations to our fellow honorees The Franks Design Group, PC and TNT Tuckpointing and Masonry Restoration, LLC — the partners whose skilled work helped make this recognition possible. It truly takes a team to preserve a place worth keeping.

New project spotlight: Cell Tower Upgrade at 111 Cottage Grove in Cedar Rapids.
This one threw a different access challenge at us on every side of the building — sloped roofing, steep landscaping, and an active parking garage underneath. Standard approaches weren't going to work, so we engineered a custom solution for each elevation using Fraco ACT-8 mast climbing platforms, crane picks, and internal shoring.

The result: high-elevation masonry work completed safely and on schedule, with zero damage to the client's property.

Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust needed their newly acquired location to match their downtown building's red and black brick—but the existing brick was buff colored.

A full recladding would have solved the problem, but at significant cost and disruption. Instead, we used masonry staining to permanently transform the building's appearance. The mineral oxide pigments bond directly with the brick—no replacement required.

Over seven years later, the building still looks as good as the day we finished.

This time of year gives us some valuable downtime, and we use it intentionally.

It’s an opportunity to get our equipment ready for the next construction season, refine internal processes, and take a hard look at how we operate in the field and in the office. One part of that effort is making sure we’re getting the most out of the equipment we already own, while planning thoughtfully for future purchases.

World of Concrete also gives us the chance to evaluate updates to the software platforms we rely on every day, including tools like Procore and Sage. Understanding new features—especially where automation and AI can reduce friction, improve coordination, and support better decision-making—helps us plan improvements that actually translate to the jobsite.

Alongside that, we’re spending time hands-on with equipment and solutions from Fraco, Hilti, Snorkel/Xtreme Manufacturing, EZG Manufacturing, and Pettibone, focusing on safety, reliability, and real-world performance.

This kind of planning work during the slower months sets us up to work smarter, safer, and more efficiently when the season ramps back up.
