As hunting season approaches, weโre asking our hunting community to not only stay safe, follow all hunting regulations, and know your surroundings โ but also be aware that lost dogs may be traveling through the areas you hunt.
Hunters often spend hours in woods, fields, trails, and remote areas where a lost dog may be hiding or moving through.
A dog that has been lost for days, weeks, or even months may look very different from the friendly family pet youโd expect to see. They may be scared, dirty, thin, or completely unwilling to approach people.
If you encounter a dog you believe may be lost:
โช๏ธ Do not chase or approach them.
โช๏ธ Do not call, whistle, or attempt to lure them toward you.
โช๏ธ Note the exact location and direction they were traveling.
โช๏ธ If you can safely do so, take a photo or video from a distance.

And if you come across a deceased dog, please reach out. We know this can be difficult, but reporting the location may help us identify the dog and, most importantly, help bring closure to a family that may still be searching and wondering what happened.
Please remember: a lost dog is not necessarily a stray dog. There may be a family desperately searching for them, and your sighting could provide a critical piece of information that helps bring them home.
If youโre hunting with a dog of your own, make sure they are properly identified with a visible ID tag and registered microchip.
