That runs and maintains the railroad. The Commanche Crossing & Eastern is a 15" gauge hobby railroad started by Virgil Uhrich and his family in the summer of 1975. Through the years, over a mile of track with sidings, 4 trestles and a tunnel have been constructed. A three-stall roundhouse and gallows turntable are currently under construction. Motive power includes steam, diesel, and electric loco
motives. There are 2 lines: the "High line" on a grueling 3% grade. It runs point to loop past Selby and Cori Butterworth's home (which has been converted from a Rock Island Railroad depot); and the "loop line" that runs past the picnic grove. The CC&E does not have normal operating hours. We have scheduled work sessions that we post on this page.
