This home in The Woodlands previously had a significant mold issue that required removal of drywall and insulation.

After that work was completed, we dry fog the home to help treat remaining surfaces and the airspace before reconstruction begins.

This step is sometimes used after traditional remediation work has taken place.

Every home and situation is different.

What the Army Corps Taught Us

In 2019, we teamed up with the US Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, for a groundbreaking 6-month trial.

They’re not exactly known for accepting mediocre results or unproven technology.

And here’s what surprised THEM, and honestly, us too:

Our VaPURE dry fog mold treatment didn’t just eliminate existing mold. It built an antimicrobial barrier that kept military barracks mold-free for OVER 8 months, even in high-humidity conditions, with ZERO maintenance.

Think about that: Military housing. Humid climate. High occupancy. And NO mold coming back for more than half a year.

Why should this matter for your Katy or Sugar Land home?

Because Texas humidity is relentless. Traditional mold cleanup means tearing out drywall, removing contaminated materials, and cleaning surfaces, only to see mold return. You’re not fixing the problem; you’re just delaying it.

The Army Corps of Engineers chose a solution focused on long-term results, not just quick fixes. They needed proof it could stand up to real-world conditions, and that’s exactly what Texas homeowners need too.

Our dry fog treatment:

✓ Penetrates every nook, crack, and cavity, including inside walls and HVAC systems
✓ Kills mold at the source, not just on the surface
✓ Leaves behind an EPA-registered antimicrobial barrier
✓ Backed by our 1-year limited warranty against microbial growth
✓ No demolition required in most cases

The big difference? We don’t just eradicate mold, we create an environment where it can’t easily return.

If this process works for the US military in humid climates, it’s definitely right for Fort Bend County.

Ever wonder how dry fog treatment actually works?

This is a short clip showing our patented VAPURE dry fog system in action inside a real home.

Dry fog uses an ultra-fine dry fog v***r that stays airborne long enough to treat both the air and surfaces at the same time. That’s important because mold and microbial particles don’t just sit where you can see them. They also move through the indoor environment.

This approach allows us to:

✔ Address indoor air and surfaces together

✔ Reach areas traditional cleaning can’t

✔ Avoid unnecessary demolition in many situations

Dry fog is often used after water intrusion, for musty odors, or as part of an ongoing indoor air quality plan.

If you have questions, feel free to message us. We’re always happy to explain options.

The 48-Hour Window

After Harvey, we learned something critical about Houston’s climate: you have a 48-hour window after ANY water event before mold can establish.

Not flood or storm. WATER EVENT.

Dog knocked over water on carpet? Timer starts.

Washing machine overflow? Clock’s ticking.

AC condensation drip? You’ve got 2 days max.

In Houston’s humidity (75-90% most of the year), mold spores can begin multiplying within 24 hours when moisture is present.

Your 48-Hour Action Plan:

FIRST 24 HOURS:
• Stop the water source immediately
• Remove standing water with towels/shop vac
• Pull up wet carpets and padding
• Point fans at wet surfaces + run dehumidifiers
• Document with photos for insurance

HOUR 24-48:
• Check behind appliances and under sinks
• Use moisture meter on walls/floors
• If drywall is still damp after 24hrs, it needs removal
• Keep humidity below 50% indoors
• Monitor for musty smell

Call a pro immediately if:
• Water damage exceeds 10 sq ft
• Source was sewage/floodwater
• Materials still damp after 48 hours
• You see or smell mold

By the time you SEE mold, colonization started days ago. Speed is everything in Fort Bend County’s climate.

This is an example of a situation where the underlying moisture issue hasn’t been fully resolved yet.

In cases like this, we sometimes return periodically to help manage mold levels while homeowners work through repair timing or budget constraints.

This isn’t a permanent fix, and it doesn’t replace proper repairs — but it can be a helpful management step in certain situations.

Every home is different.

Even though the weather feels great right now in Houston, indoor air quality can still dip in November.

This is the time of year when:
• Windows stay closed
• Humidity jumps around
• HVAC systems cycle on/off instead of running steadily
• Dust and mold spores linger in the ductwork

All of that can trigger asthma, coughing, and sinus irritation, even on “good weather” days.

Pure Maintenance of Texas helps improve indoor air quality with a whole-home dry-fog process that reduces airborne mold and VOCs.
