Just finished a remodel and receive the green tag for the city to close up the walls. The homeowner did his own electrical work and the inspector wouldn't approve of a wall cover because he was unaware of the safety hazards he created. This house was built somewhere between the early 60's to mid 70's. This was when aluminum wire was accepted as an alternative to copper to wire a house. (Due to the rise in copper prices). Aluminum was NEVER found to be a good alternative for copper. It was just a cheaper solution that was acceptable at that time. Eventually, it was removed from being used in homes due to the higher risk of fires. Improper wiring and wiring devices made this even more of an issue. If you have aluminum wire in your home it's best to ask a licensed electrician for assistance. In doing so that can save you money and keep you and your family safe.
