🚨 Homeowners in Sugar Land & Richmond: Check Your Dryer Vent! 🚨
Yesterday I had two dryer vent cleaning appointments in two different neighborhoods—Harvest Green and Aliana. Both homes were relatively new, and both had the same issue: screens installed on the dryer vent termination.
The lint in the photo came from one of those screens.
While screens may seem like a good idea, they actually create a maintenance problem on dryer vents. Their job is to catch debris, but dryer vents naturally carry lint. Over time, that lint builds up on the screen, restricting airflow and causing:
✅ Longer drying times
✅ Higher utility bills
✅ Increased wear on the dryer
✅ Excessive back pressure in the vent system
✅ Increased fire risk
One thing that surprised me is that both homes were in newer neighborhoods, yet both had screened dryer vent terminations. Just because a home is new doesn't always mean every component was installed according to current dryer vent best practices.
Dryer vent terminations should be designed to allow lint to exit freely—not collect it.

This is what comes out of some dryer vent systems during a professional cleaning. 👀
The slow motion in this video really shows just how much lint can build up inside a dryer vent over time. All of that material was restricting airflow and sitting inside the system.
I always try to clean dryer vents from the outside whenever possible, but sometimes roof conditions or unsafe access require the system to be cleaned from the inside instead. The goal is always the same — remove as much lint and restriction as possible while doing the job safely and correctly.
