A good bit of information for homeowners from our friends at Paul Cain Concrete! Please protect yourself and others. Always hire a contractor who is properly insured! Remember, the cheapest option is rarely the best option. KG&E cares about our customers and the communities where we operate!
Did you know as a home owner hiring an uninsured contractor you may be held liable for their injuries? Once you’re at the injury point it’s too late to wish you had hired the contractor that maintains Worker’s Compensation and General Liability Insursnce. A contractor may seek compensation for:
• Medical expenses (past and future)
• Lost wages and future earnings
• Pain and suffering
• Disability or reduced earning capacity
• Legal fees in some cases
There’s no statutory cap on personal injury damages in Missouri for such cases.
Typical Cost Ranges (General Personal Injury Lawsuits)
Because there’s no statutory “average” number, the amounts can vary dramatically depending on injury severity and circumstances. For perspective:
• Minor injuries (e.g., sprains, cuts): settlements often run in the low thousands up to ~$10,000–$20,000 or more (depending on medical bills and lost wages).
• Moderate injuries (broken bones, surgery required): can lead to mid-five-figure settlements — e.g., $50,000–$150,000+.
• Severe injuries (permanent disability, significant medical care): claims can easily exceed six figures (e.g., $200,000, $500,000, or more).
• Catastrophic injuries (long-term disability, major surgery, loss of limb): settlements or jury awards can exceed seven figures in rare but serious cases.
These ranges reflect general premises liability and personal injury outcomes but are illustrative — every case is unique
