We wrapped up the infrastructure improvements on the square this week.

It was a bonus working right across the street from the Sullivan Bakery... except when my wife was getting the mail and saw me walk out with a dozen donuts!

We installed a new valve on the 8" main, installed a large meter pit for a 2" water service, a hydrant, and a 4" valve for the fire sprinkler system for the new Metro Communications Company, Inc. building.

More infrastructure improvements up on the square in Sullivan. We are working with the city crew on the 8" ductile water main. Today we moved 3 water services and added a hydrant.

As a bonus, we had 2 reps on site to show us how to extend the hydrant to the new finish grade. I also learned that what you see on TV and the movies- car vs hydrant, rarely results in the dramatic geyser of water. They are designed to break off and seal.

It's been a very cold week so far, but the 💩 show must go on!

Relocating a manhole in an alleyway behind the Metro Communications Company, Inc. office building in Sullivan to facilitate development.

We pulled vacuum on their sewer line during construction, to avoid shutting off flow for the offices and to allow us to pour a custom bottom in the structure.

Apparently they got lazy when they replaced the bridge last time. We ran into several large pieces of it. Luckily we didn't get into it with the trencher. This makes bid jobs tough. This cost us a day of production and increased costs to haul it off.

More water main installation pics. The 4" pipes are 20' long and have a gasket to seal the joint vs glue. We lubricate the male and female ends with the blue stuff- we call it "Smurf juice" (PG version). Then we spray paint the joint to check for separation before backfilling.
