From roughly Gainesville south through Ocala and into the Spring Hill/Nature Coast area, atmospheric moisture is increasing and thunderstorms are becoming numerous this afternoon. Gainesville has showers and thunderstorms likely, and the NWS Jacksonville office says some storms across its area could become strong or even locally severe, with damaging wind gusts potentially around 40–60 mph. Heavy rain over short periods is another concern.

On the west side — Nature Coast, Spring Hill and toward Tampa Bay/I-4 — the Tampa Bay NWS office expects thunderstorms to increase through the mid-afternoon and continue into early evening. Importantly for your service territory, they specifically expect more numerous storms over the Nature Coast counties, with scattered activity farther south.

Across the interior — Ocala toward Orlando/I-4 — we're looking at the classic combination of very warm, humid air and afternoon thunderstorm development. Orlando is around the low 90s this afternoon, but the more important story for us is increasing thunderstorm coverage as the afternoon progresses.
