Need more storage without giving up more of the backyard? The roof style can make a difference.

A barn-style shed gives you extra room overhead, which can come in handy for loft storage, taller equipment, or simply getting more use out of the same footprint.

This one also has double doors and a ramp, so getting lawn equipment and other bulky items in and out is a whole lot easier.

Reality: Cheap hardware sags within a year or two, and doors start dragging or not latching right. The hinges on this one are rated to carry the door's full weight long-term, and the transom windows above aren't just decorative, they cut down on how dark it feels inside without needing to run electrical for a light.

Same spot, same view of the water, completely different shed. This homeowner's old shed had done its job for years, but it was time for an upgrade.
