A small backyard doesn't always mean choosing the smallest shed.

First look at the space you can actually use. Then think about what needs to fit inside and how you'll get things through the doors once the shed is there.

A shed can fit on paper and still feel awkward if the doors are in the wrong place, there's no easy path for a mower, or it takes up more usable yard than you expected.

Start with what has to fit inside.

Write down your biggest items first, then think about shelving, room to get things in and out, and enough space to walk through the shed without moving everything around.

And leave a little room for the things you haven't bought yet. Somehow, sheds always find those. 😄

Start with what's included.

Are the sheds the same size and style? Do they include the same doors and windows? Who is responsible for permitting? Are there site requirements or upgrades included in one quote but not the other?

Two numbers can look very different because you're not always comparing the same project.

How long does it take to build a shed?

Most of our sheds are assembled on-site in about 1–2 days.

The overall project can take longer because the work before build day varies. If a permit is required, it needs to be in place before construction can move forward.

So it helps to separate the two timelines: planning and permitting first, then the actual build.

Once the project is ready for construction, the build itself is usually the quick part.

Can you build a shed without a permit in Florida?

Sometimes. Permit requirements depend on where you live and the type of shed you're building.

When a permit is required for a Quality Art Sheds project, the homeowner pulls it and we guide you through what you need for the process. Handling it this way may save you up to $1,500 or more compared with having a contractor handle the permit.

Permitting can add time before the build. Once the permit is in place and the project is ready, most of our sheds can be assembled on-site in just 1–2 days.

Here’s something homeowners don’t always think about until they start looking at sheds: how is it getting into the backyard?

A narrow side yard, fence, gate or landscaping can make moving a fully built shed onto the property difficult.

That’s one reason we build on-site. We bring the materials in and build the shed where it’s going to stay, which gives homeowners more flexibility when backyard access is tight.

So if the path to your backyard is a little less than generous, don’t assume that means a shed won’t work there.

Windows are great, but so is having enough wall space to hang tools or add shelving.

That’s one of those shed choices that comes down to how you plan to use the space. If you want more natural light, windows may be worth it. If storage is the priority, keeping more uninterrupted wall space can be useful.

Neither choice is better across the board. It just needs to make sense for your setup.

Florida rain has a way of showing you exactly where the low spots in the yard are.

That’s why shed placement shouldn’t only be about where there happens to be an open patch of grass. We also want to think about drainage, ground conditions and what that area looks like after a heavy storm.

One of the easiest ways to choose the wrong shed size is to start with the number before thinking about what has to go inside.

A mower needs floor space. Shelving needs wall space. Bikes can take up more room than you think. And if something bulky is going in and out regularly, the door opening matters too.

So before you decide on a size, make a quick list of what the shed needs to hold and how you’ll use it. That usually makes the next decisions a whole lot easier.

At some point, the garage becomes storage for everything that doesn’t have a better home.

The mower, bikes, holiday bins, folding chairs, tools and outdoor gear all start competing for the same space.

A backyard shed can take some of that pressure off, especially when it’s planned around what you’re really storing instead of choosing a size first and hoping everything fits later.
