Extreme cold temperatures are heading our way, and with them comes the risk of frozen pipes!
❄️ Did you know that frozen pipes are one of the most common and costly issues during winter? In fact, State Farm reported paying over $432 million for more than 17,200 frozen pipe claims in 2023, with the average claim exceeding $23,500.
But don’t worry—there are steps you can take now to protect your home:
Insulate Exposed Pipes: Wrap pipes in unheated areas like basements, garages, and crawl spaces to prevent freezing.
Let Faucets Drip: On extremely cold nights, let a trickle of water run from faucets, especially those served by exposed pipes, to keep water moving and prevent freezing.
Seal Gaps and Cracks: Check for and seal any gaps around windows, doors, and pipes that could let cold air in.
Disconnect Garden Hoses: Drain and disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor water valves.
Know Your Shut-Off Valve: Familiarize yourself with the location of your home's main water shut-off valve in case you need to stop water quickly due to a burst pipe.
