I just had a surprise visit from an old friend and fellow employee of Quaker Maid Kitchens.
I had sent a photo of my burn in brand logo to Randy Hummel a couple moths ago showing him the design that I came up with.
So just minutes ago, I had a knock at my door and it was Randy! He pulls out from around his back an enlarged version of my burn in logo made on ½" Solid Ash, 16" in diameter!
My burn in logo is 1¼" diameter.
Randy has been playing with his CNC machine and decided to make my logo. He apply epoxy to fill in the routing for the tree and text.

Thank you Randy, it looks Great!

Are you a fan????

Back at the woodshop today.
Working on the right side wing to the office countertop.
Ran 4 glued up 2¼" thick x 31" deep sections through the planer to bring to the thickness dimension to 2".
Then glued the sections together along with 10 jointer biscuits per joint to glue the countertop together and clamp making it 70" long.

Next, repeat the process to make the left side 70" wide wing.

I made smaller pieces out of bigger pieces today!

Now this is looking at the left and right side wings to the peninsula.
They are back to back.
They are lying on top of the peninsula top.

I just got finished mixing and matching the pieces in each section to give each wing counter about the same amount of character.

Tomorrow I will be planing them done in thickness a bit, like I did the peninsula section and prep them with the biscuit jointer machine to be able to glue them together as close to a 20" wide section as possible, then glue the sections together to make the left and right tops.

The second picture is how the grain direction they will be viewed from inside of the room. Grain running the same direction as the peninsula section counter.

After planing some planks on Wednesday, on Thursday, the 4th of July, the 14 joining biscuits were laid out at each joint and machined in.
Then the biscuits were glued into each pocket and the edges had glue applied.
Planks were married up and clamped together and will set up overnight.
The sections of this peninsula section of the desktop were joined to be able to run through my 20" wide planer.
Once all the parts are planed down to 2" thick,, they all will be glued together to make the 40" wide x 96" long top and finished sanded by hand. (Well, belt sander and orbital sander).

I chuckled to myself as I was clamping up thinking, This is the biggest cutting board I ever made!! 😄😄😄😄

Well, I thought I'd work at making a couple of spalted maple charcuterie boards, since I have the wood cut and stacked.
My first charcuterie board is plain, nothing fancy, because of it's width. 6½"W x 26"L.
Removed the bark, planed it to dimension, sanded it from 80 to 220, then applied a coat of beeswax.

My second charcuterie board is wider, 8"W x 26" L. A little further down on the log.
It had some cracks from drying process so I drew around them to make a nice handle on this piece. The center of the handle may get cut out? Haven't decided yet.
Still needs treatment on edges and sanded.

I was working on the finishing touches an a 15" x 21" Black Walnut and White Oak custom cutting board that one of my customers ordered.
I just finished making the jig to route the juice groove and routed the groove into the board with 4 passes.
Then, I burned my logo on the corner and sanded the groove with 150 and 180 paper.
Rubbed in the cutting board oil to seal things up.

I hope the customer likes it?

The juice groove is 5/16" deep.
It should hold quite a bit of juice?

Yesterday, I had cut to size to fit my shortbed truck and loaded up 7 Ambrosia Maple logs that I had laying in my yard from clearing my woods 1½ years ago.
Took them to a friend's Sawmill to get cut into 1¼" thick boards to make charcuterie boards and a few 4"x4"'s for turnings.
I wasn't sure what was hiding inside of them until the bandsaw started opening them up.
Lots of Ambrosia character inside!

Now need to stack and sticker them to airdry for future creations.

Saturday morning I took some of the Pine tree branches the I cleaned up in our church grove earlier in the week and cut then into lengths to put on the lathe to find out what they wanted to be.
I find as you start to turn something on the lathe, depending on a blank's length and diameter, it starts letting you know what it wants to be!
So the first larger Pine blank shaped into a snowman measuring 3¼" diameter x 8½" tall.
Other smaller blanks turned into 2 small snowmen measuring 1¼" diameter x 2¾" tall.
Then 2 of my first Christmas trees were turned.
One 1¾" diameter x 5" tall and a second one 2" diameter x 7½" tall.
Then I applied some Howard's beeswax to a live edge bowl I turned last week. That branch piece measured 6" diameter x 6" long, Ambrosia Maple.
