In February, Jason Dean from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, gave an informative program on growing camellias and sasanquas and rooting their cuttings. The floral design challenge was an inverted triangle. Missy Holeman and Teresa Lusk served as hostesses.

Summit Garden Club had a wonderful March meeting with President Ronda Nidel demonstrating how to mount a staghorn fern on a piece of driftwood which was graciously given as a raffle prize. Several members also made arrangements exemplifying this month’s floral challenge, the inverted T design style. Hostesses were Matha Hopper and Sue Bitz. Next month the focus will be native plants with a plant and seed swap. Come join us!

Summit Garden Club recently gathered at the Fleur de Lis Tea Company nestled in the countryside of Amite, LA for an informative tour and tea luncheon. The tea is grown, hand harvested and processed at the tea plantation. The tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and teas are available for purchase.

Summit Garden Club met Thursday, November 20th at SMCC. Pike Extension Agent Brent Breland gave a demonstration of a fall floral design suitable for a center piece. He also showed the advantages of cutting flowers with a knife as opposed to scissors or clippers. Hostesses Ginger Chappell and Sue Bitz served a delicious light lunch. The club is supporting Wreaths across America and planning a December outing to Fleur de Lis Tea Company. New holiday cookbooks are available for $5.

The Summit Garden Club recently met at SMCC for a program on floral design. Rita Wallace of Amazing Flowers showcased several of her arrangements with instructional tips. Members displayed arrangements they made illustrative of a vertical design. Plans were made to have a tent at the Summit Fall Fest on October 11th and have copies of their new cookbook available.
