Celebrating 20 Years!!
It was 20 years ago today that this company was born. International Paper sold the bulk of its landholdings in our area and my position was no longer needed. An opportunity to stay was presented to me, but I had a dream and the door to independence was wide open!
It was the greatest feeling in the world to have such freedom, to not be limited by others perception of my potential and abilities. I quickly realized what awesome responsibilities came with such freedom. I had 3 small children and a wife to support soley on the income this fledgling business could produce. I recieved a small severance check but it wouldn’t last too long. (We never went without)I went straight for my tools, no time between jobs, it was time to dig in and go to work like I never had before!
Just a few weeks into this adventure I assumed even greater responsibility, I hired two young men to join me. One had a family and they both had financial obligations to meet. They trusted me to provide them work and I was determined to never let them down. I have served a lot of men and women over the years with that same determination.
The story is too long to write here, after all,it’s been 20 years now. I’ll never forget the first months, how they would meet me on my doorstep at 4:45 am for the ride to the Bald Head Island Ferry. I’ll always be grateful for all they did to help me establish a foundation in this World of Construction.
Id love to go back and spend one more day working with just them. Here’s to those three “kids” who started it all - the first “crew” of Carolina Craftsman, Inc. Robert Norton, Alex Karagiannis, and Robbie Auman
