When plumbers install electrical… 😂

Gotta have that water-cooled Romex I suppose 🤷‍♂️💦

All jokes aside, I don’t know who installed this at a school facility, but it’s definitely far from up to par. Those are plumbing fittings, not fittings listed for electrical use.

Honestly, it probably took more effort to pull the Romex through all those fittings than it would’ve taken to just do it right.

As for the water, it’s actually pretty normal to find water in underground conduit from condensation and moisture. That’s why Romex isn’t rated for this type of installation and wet-location wire should be used. Properly placed in-ground pull boxes can also help keep accumulated water from making its way up the conduit and into electrical equipment.

Sometimes doing it right the first time really is easier. ⚡️

🌲⚡ When a tree meets a power line…

A returning customer gave me a call after a tree came down on their utility service drop, leaving them without power.

I headed out the next morning to assess the damage. Thankfully, the service mast I had previously installed held strong, the damage was limited to the weatherhead and service conductors.

This is exactly why I prefer using rigid metal conduit (RMC) for service masts. That extra strength and durability can make a big difference when the unexpected happens.

A new weatherhead, new service wire, and they were ready for the utility to reconnect power! ⚡️

Built to last. Built with the unexpected in mind.

⚡️Recently wrapped up this metal shop project for a customer! ⚡
We started by running an underground conduit from the house panel out to the shop and installed a Ufer ground for the new shop subpanel. Inside, we ran EMT throughout the building to provide power for multiple 120V receptacles and a couple of 240V outlets for equipment and tools.
On the exterior, we added two weather-resistant 120V outlets along with a dedicated 30A RV receptacle so the owner's trailer can stay plugged in and ready to go. 🔌
To finish things off, we installed two exterior lights, one at the man door and one centered between the bay doors, each on its own switch for independent control during those late-night shop projects.
Another clean installation and fun project in the books for Safeguard Electric! ⚡🔌

Out at the crusher plant over the last couple weeks taking care of some industrial troubleshooting and repairs.

⚡️ Week 1:
Installed and programmed a new soft starter for the main crusher motor to get the system back up and running properly.

⚡️ Week 2:
Returned after a conveyor motor started tripping overloads. Performed full troubleshooting including megger testing, resistance checks, cable testing, and motor diagnostics. Motor and cord tested good. Repaired worn cable insulation at the motor connection and tracked the issue down to excessive belt resistance causing additional load on the motor and tripping the overloads.

Always good getting back to this kind of work, industrial equipment is something I worked on during my apprenticeship in Reno.

Not all electrical problems are dramatic sparks and outages ⚡️
Most start small… and get ignored.

That loose outlet.
That breaker you “just reset.”
That light that flickers once in a while.

February is a good reminder to take care of the little things before they turn into bigger (and more expensive) problems. Safeguard Electric is always happy to take a look and give honest feedback, no pressure.
