Building a large retaining wall? Don’t just stack blocks and hope for the best. The success of your wall starts long before the first unit is placed.

Here’s what you need to get it right from the start:

1. Planning & Engineering
• Determine wall height, loads, and purpose
• Check local codes and permit requirements
• For larger walls (often 4 ft+), involve an engineer

2. Site Evaluation
• Analyze soil type (clay, sand, etc.)
• Assess slope and drainage conditions
• Identify groundwater or runoff issues

3. Choosing the right materials and system
• MSE or Modular Systems
• The need for Geogrid
