Announcing the HRD LAND STEWARD GRANT PROGRAM!
Healing Roots Design (HRD) is pleased to announce the launch of The Healing Roots Design Land Steward Grant Program. Applications open on August 10, 2026.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Healing Roots Design Land Steward Grant Program supports the need for community gardens and resilient gardeners in Greater Asheville. The goal of the Land Steward Grant is to create or expand existing gardens in the communities where we serve, cultivating accessible and thriving habitats and food ecosystems for people and the planet.
One qualified garden project will be awarded for the 2026-27 year.
The grant may be used for: growing fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs, expanding opportunities for community members to include local food in their diets, enhancing perennial food systems, converting lawns to habitats, soil health improvement and composting, wellness community initiatives, community seed banks, community education and development, vocational training for land and farming stewards, strengthening CSAs, food banks, food forests and community orchards.
WHAT THE GRANT PROVIDES:
Plants: Healing Roots Design will provide a total of 125-150 plants, including native, edible, pollinator, and perennials.
Mentorship: Healing Roots Design will provide monthly consultations for troubleshooting and guidance, in November & December 2026 and March-October 2027.
Total Value: $8-10K value of plants and mentorship.
ELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS
Non-profits, watershed and mountain stewardship organizations, community associations, schools and institutions, faith based organizations, established community groups in environmental justice and food sovereignty, etc. Priority will be given to organizations that are visible and accessible in their respective communities.
ELIGIBLE PROJECT LOCATIONS: Within 15 miles of downtown Asheville, including: N, S, W, E Asheville, Woodfin, Weaverville, Candler, Fairview, Swannanoa & Black Mountain.
