A little peek at my own garden before the summer burnout takes its toll. 🌿

I don’t give myself nearly as much time in my own backyard as I’d like, so I keep things simple: bold color, easy-care plants, and lots of impact.

Because sometimes a garden designer’s own garden has to be low-maintenance, too. 😉

A dead hedge? It sounds a little strange, but it’s actually one of the most wildlife-friendly features you can add to a garden.

We started by driving posts into the ground in our client’s garden, then filled the space with clipped and fallen branches. Over time, those branches slowly break down, feeding the soil from below while new prunings are added on top.

The result is a living habitat that provides shelter for nesting birds, beneficial insects, and countless other small creatures that help keep a garden healthy.

As an added bonus, this dead hedge is also creating a beautiful natural privacy screen from the street.

Sometimes the best garden features aren’t the ones you buy—they’re the ones you build with what nature already provides.

Do something cool. Nature is worth it. 🌿
