“You must not be frightened
if a sadness
rises in front of you,
larger than any you have ever seen;
if an anxiety,
like light and cloud-shadows,
moves over your hands and over
everything you do.
You must realize that something is happening to you,
that life has not forgotten you,
that it holds you in its hand
and will not let you fall.”

— Rainer Maria Rilke

A central, powerful way to Dwell is to follow the light.   We know the world by the sun’s rays reflecting off form, streaming into our heart and mind through our eyes. We are then united with that form’s being. More deeply, light animates life.  Spirit rides light’s currents, enters us, enl...

I often refer to this poem, regarding how lumbered through life until I found my water, where I live into my fuller self (Rumi’s “light grain seed”). I had to die, stop nervously clinging to my ego’s wants, and let myself into true waters. This was not a pleasant process; my ego was quite resistant!

I'm carried further and further on when I write, or amble in a forest, or enter silence, or site with a friend sharing lives.. I’m astonished — way more than pleased — that the water cares about me, gaily receives me, joyfully flows under me. That I can settle into peace.

I still clumsy lumber through what is not done within myself. The ropes are my false understandings, that only I can unfurl. Dwelling, mindfully saying yes to all aspects of life — sorrow, joy, loneliness, harmony, turmoil, awkwardness, love — has let me down into my water.

Every soldier is divine
Essential, precious, love-filled.
Every soldier speaks
Killing
A bullet kills us all the same
A bomb obliterates us all the same
Imagine ending
As tiny fragments scattered

“This must be the mission of every[one] of goodwill: to insist, unflaggingly, at risk of becoming a repetitive bore, but to insist on the achievement of a world in which the mind will have triumphed over violence.” -Leonard Bernstein
