Ever put your foot in your mouth?
This is how I know and can remember Dr. Duke's Birthday.
After Dr. Duke's Health was failing, I visited him several times out on his Farm and Ranch. Dr. Storey had taken his place and Dr. Duke asked me how I like "Bobby". I said great, but I sure did miss him. After Bobby moved to North Alabama, I was seeing a new doctor, and on another visit, Dr. Duke asked me how he was treating me. I said "not very good; in fact he was rude and kinda ill". I went on to say "He was mad about something; He might've just found out that he owed a lot more of taxes; I was there on April 15th. You know EVERYBODY hates April 15th".
In Dr. Duke's ever so gentle voice, he said "Why Johnny, That's my Birthday".

(Just stick that ole foot in a little deeper, Johnny) :(

This has been such a sad time. We pray and hope that God's Peace that passeth all understanding touches all of Jim's Family and Loved Ones in our time of loss. I ate breakfast very early most mornings with Jim in The 70's & 80's at Coachlite Restauant, then Tebo moved to BECK's RESTAURANT. The Dinner Bell finally was the best morning place to eat after Tebo died in 1993.( Today, it is Talladega's BEST, Tina's Homecookin) We saw Jim at a few events years later, but I started a new work schedule. TEBO'S was a place to find Jackie Stephens, Woodrow Stephens, Doug (The Big Tuna) Camp, Kennon (Coconut) Wallis, Harold Ingram , Senator Bobby (Boss Hog) Weaver , George Porter ,James (Fuzzy) Peeples, Senator Jim (Mr. Pontiac) Preuitt , Bill Storey , Joel Taylor Gibson, Mr. Nunn ,Walter Edge , Betty Love , Robert (The Icecream Man) Weaver, Gladys McCraven, Donnie Miller , Pat Miller, Bob Miller,Tina's Homecookin, Polly Haney, Peggy Vice Dean ,Danny Haney, Joe Wayne Ingram, Jake Montgomery, Bo Brewer, Raymond Jones , Roger Barker , Charlie Ball , Roy Champion, Andy Sexton, Larry Sims ,and my sweet wife Rita (Most all of these "nicknames" were given by the one and only Kennon (COCUNUT) Wallis. Rita and I had the pleasure of having Thanksgiving Day Dinner this year with most of Jim's Family at the most gracious hospitality of Sharon & Rickey Freize's Home. Hundreds of other special people had the priviledge and pleasure to break bread & eat with JIM BARNETT and have very pleasant and enjoyable conversations. He will be missed.

Graveside service for Jimmy Barnett, 76, of Talladega will be 1:30 pm, Friday, December 27, 2019 at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Wes Johnson, Mike Carden, and George Sims will officiate. Saw my good friend Jeff Sessions last night and he reached to shake my hand. I said "Senator, we'd better just wave this time; I just finished working on a sewer". He grabbed my hand and shook it firmly saying "I can shake anybody's hand now; I just got back from D.C.".
