Idalia has rapidly intensified into a category 4 hurricane overnight with winds of 130 mph. The center is 60 miles west of Cedar Key and will make landfall this morning along the Big Bend coast of FL. After landfall, Idalia is forecast to turn toward the northeast and east-northeast, moving near or along the coasts of GA, SC, and NC late today and Thursday where it may still be a hurricane as it crosses SE GA & coastal SC. Destructive life-threatening winds will occur where the core of Idalia moves onshore in the Big Bend region of Florida along with catastrophic storm surge up to 12-16 feet. Strong winds and heavy rain will also spread inland across portions of northern Florida and southern Georgia near the track of the center of Idalia where Hurricane Warnings are in effect. Residents in these areas should be prepared for long-duration power outages. Please stay safe if you are along the path of Idalia.

Subtropical Storm Nicole has formed in the Atlantic. Nicole has a large wind field with winds near 45 mph and the wind field is projected to grow even larger. Winds will be at or near hurricane force as it approaches FL on Thursday. Significant coastal flooding will be the biggest threat due to the large size of the storm. A prolonged period of coastal flooding, tropical-storm-force winds, heavy rainfall, rough surf and rip currents, and beach erosion are likely along much of the SE United States coast, the Florida east coast, and portions of the Bahamas during much of the upcoming week. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for the northwestern Bahamas, and additional watches could be required for portions of the Bahamas and the coast of Florida later today. Confidence in this forecast is high. Stay tuned for updates.

Invest 98L - Latest models are trending towards a strong tropical storm or possible category one hurricane impact later this week for the Bahamas and portions of FL. Development chances are up to 90%, and it appears likely this system will develop. We should have an invest or potential tropical cyclone advisories later today. All interests in the Bahamas, Florida and the southeastern U.S should monitor the progress of this system. Stay tuned for updates.

Hurricane-force winds are expected across coasts of South Carolina and southeastern North Carolina beginning early Friday, where a Hurricane Warning is in effect. Hurricane conditions are possible by tonight along the coasts of northeastern Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina where a Hurricane Watch is in effect. Preparations should be rushed to completion since tropical-storm-force winds will begin well before the center approaches the coast.
