🐛 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘇𝘇𝘆 𝗢𝗻𝗲

That soft, fuzzy little caterpillar might look pettable, but in North Florida, looks can hurt. The puss caterpillar, also called an asp, hides venomous spines under all that fluff, and brushing against one causes an intense, burning sting.

They show up on oaks, elms, and shrubs in late summer, and sometimes drop right onto porches, railings, and playsets. Kids are especially at risk, because they are curious.

The rule is simple: admire, do not touch. If stinging caterpillars are showing up around your home, we can help treat the areas where they gather. Ever run into one of these?

Andrea joined the Capital City Pest Control team in June 2022, starting part-time after high school and working her way into her current role as Office Manager. She plays an important part in keeping the office running smoothly and making sure our customers receive the friendly, dependable service they deserve.

Outside of work, Andrea enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, friends, and family. She is involved in the children’s ministry at her church, loves line dancing, and spends plenty of time with her black lab, Buck. She has also recently added chickens to her list of interests.

Andrea is passionate about building genuine relationships with our customers. That is why she is a valued part of the Capital City Pest Control team.

🦂 𝗬𝗲𝘀, 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

Surprise. Florida has scorpions, and the Panhandle is prime territory for the little striped bark scorpion. Before you panic, here is the good news: our local scorpions are not deadly, and their sting is roughly like a bee sting for most people.

Still, nobody wants to find one in a shoe or on the wall. They slip indoors through cracks and gaps hunting for moisture and insects, especially in the late summer heat.

If the yellowjackets around your Tallahassee yard seem angrier lately, you are not imagining it. By late summer their colonies hit peak size, natural food gets scarce, and they turn bold, aggressive, and quick to sting.

Unlike a lot of stinging insects, yellowjackets can sting again and again, and their nests are often hidden in the ground, in wall voids, or under decks where you do not spot them until it is too late.

Please do not go poking around a nest yourself. We remove them safely and treat the area so they do not rebuild. Found one near the house? Call us before someone gets stung.

A little about Travis:
Travis established Capital City Pest Control in 2018, bringing more than 15 years of hands-on experience and industry training to the business. His knowledge, dedication, and commitment to taking care of customers have helped shape the company into what it is today. Building relationships has always been important to Travis, and his outgoing personality is a big part of how he connects with customers.

Outside of work, Travis is a husband of 8 years and proud dad to two boys. Family is a big part of his life, and when he isn’t working or spending time with them, you’ll most likely find him outdoors. He especially enjoys duck hunting, along with dove, deer, and turkey hunting.

If you’ve ever met Travis, you know he doesn’t meet strangers. He genuinely enjoys getting to know people and can strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Flip on the kitchen light after dark and catch a roach darting for cover? That is no accident. Roaches are nocturnal and come out when the house is quiet to hunt for crumbs, grease, and water.

Make your kitchen far less appealing:
🌙 Wipe counters and sweep floors before bed
🌙 Never leave dishes in the sink overnight
🌙 Store food and pet food in sealed containers
🌙 Fix drips and dry out the sink before you turn in
