Quick question for our Tallahassee neighbors: when did you last have your roof inspected after a storm season?

Many homes in older Tallahassee neighborhoods were built before current wind-load requirements, which means each hurricane season puts extra stress on roofing systems that were never designed to meet today's Florida Building Code standards.

We talk to homeowners every week who had no idea their roof had soft spots or compromised flashing until water showed up on an interior ceiling.

Drop a comment and tell us what questions you have about roof health. We are always glad to help.

Wind-rated roofing is not just a product upgrade. It is a code requirement for homes in North Florida's hurricane zones.

Here is what separates a wind-rated installation from standard roofing:

- Six nails per shingle instead of four, creating a mechanical lock that holds under sustained gusts
- Synthetic underlayment rated for high tear-strength, acting as a secondary water barrier
- Double-fastened starter courses along eaves and rakes where wind uplift begins

These details determine whether your roof stays intact when a tropical system moves through the I-10 corridor. If your roof predates current Florida Building Code standards, it may be worth a diagnostic check before hurricane season ramps up.

We are happy to walk you through what a compliant installation looks like for your home. Reach out to schedule an assessment.

One storm can cause more than what’s visible at first glance. Missing shingles, damaged siding, and loose gutters can let water into your home or direct it toward your foundation—leading to bigger problems over time.

After severe weather, check your roofline and exterior for changes. Have you spotted storm damage around your home? Read more on our blog post linked below!
