Welcome February⚠️ Tips for the Spring ✅

💡You should apply early spring lawn fertilizer once between February and April, when your grass is starting to green up and begin to actively grow (around the time your lawn first needs to be mowed).

Because your lawn wakes up hungry in the spring! Fertilizing it strengthens roots and gets it off to a good start. this usually happens the first part of March, fertilizers should be applied by the end of February or before. Ammonium nitrate and urea are the two most common nitrogen fertilizers in the area. They both perform equally well when applied during this time of year with cooler weather and soil temperatures.

When to fertilize new sod? 🤔

💡Most companies will suggest to wait about 30 days after installations. Our suggestion is a bit different.

Newly installed grass is extremely stressed out after it has been harvested and tampered with. This is why we recommend to give it nutrients that will help it establish successfully.

Liquid fertilizers tend to work best for new sod, since they are able to pe*****te the surface of the soil to help condition the area beneath the surface. A fertilizer with an adequate amount of phosphorus is best.

Your local garden center representative can help to guide you in the right direction based on your needs if you choose to do it yourself.

Here are some January lawn tips to help you through the “cold” winter. Make a resolution to keep your yard in tip-top shape: ✅

1️⃣ Get Control of your Weeds
It’s hard to find a yard without any weeds. Weeds can do some serious damage to your yard and even kill it entirely. A well-weeded yard will be healthy and look beautiful all year long.

2️⃣ Proper Lawn Irrigation
Make sure your lawn has enough water throughout the year is one of the simplest resolutions you can make. A good rule to follow is to make sure your lawn gets at least 1 inch of water per week whether from hose, irrigation system, or rain. Irrigating your lawn properly also depends on what time you’re watering your lawn. Dawn and dusk are the best times to water your lawn because little to no water will evaporate. That means most of the water will feed your grass and keep it looking green and bright.

3️⃣ Fertilize
In order to replenish your soil’s nutrients you should fertilize regularly. Fertilizing your grass will lead to greener, fuller lawns. You can get to work on this resolution in the early spring when your yard’s grass begins to green up. Just always remember to follow the directions on your container of fertilizer.

4️⃣ Take Care of Garden Pests
Whether they’re tiny snails or aphids or thieving deer and groundhogs, garden pests can really be a pain in the butt so it’s important to keep them out of your garden. Repellents, traps, and scare devices are all good investments to checking off this resolution. Or hiring a pest control company to help you out!

Lawn tips for August:✅

💡The month of August is your last chance to apply high nitrogen fertilizer and to topdress with compost. Winston Churchill wisely warned that if you fail to plan you plan to fail.

We are right in the middle of the dog-days of summer, but now’s the time to look ahead to fall and get ready. It’s the perfect time to think about next year’s lawn and how to give it a great start.

Fall is a really great time to repair your lawn. Whatever is causing damage, fall’s lower temperatures and higher rainfall will help your lawn recover and store energy for a great spring and summer next year.

Will you need to reseed or overseed any areas of your lawn in late August? Now is the time to source or order that seed. You’ll want to reseed in late summer or early fall so that grass seed has a chance to sprout during ideal growing conditions in fall for a great start next year. Give your lawn the best start possible next spring by fertilizing in late summer or early fall.

How many square feet on each pallet of sod?🤔

💡 The majority of sod sold come in 400 square foot pallets or 500 square foot pallets. Each rectangular piece usually measures two feet by one in a half (piece of sod is 16" x 24"). A 400 square foot pallet has 150 pieces of sod and a 500 square foot pallet of sod has 180 pieces of sod.

To figure out how much sod you need, measure out the area; get the length in feet and the depth in feet. Multiply these 2 numbers together to get total square feet.

Remember when ordering, it’s always better to order 10 percent more than you think will be needed. You most likely will not come up with a number that neatly fits into the square footage that comes on a pallet.

Sod farms will not deliver partial pallets so you will have to order a bit more than you need, then either find someone that needs the amount you will have extra or find other spots in your yard that might need some repair/replacement. 🍃
