🥶 🥶 PSA 🥶 🥶
With the coldest weather we have seen in nearly 20 years headed our way this weekend.
We are expecting the damage to be extremely extensive. As the entire tampa bay area is in the cone of potential damage, not just the nothern areas.
These temperatures are not only damaging to all of your sensitive Tropicals and sub Tropicals, you may actually see some damage on some of your cold hearty plants, specifically the new growth that could be vegetating. If you see any new growth sprouting it would be in your best interest to try to protect it. These temperatures that are expected are not our normal freeze/frost type temperatures, so don’t be surprised to see damage on plants that you’ve never seen be damaged before.
If you plan on protecting your plants, tomorrow morning would be the time to do it. But, with the temperatures that are expected, and the prolonged exposure that’s expected do not be disappointed If you still see some kind of damage. Even after you have taken means to protect them. The general idea is to try to salvage the plant as much as possible so that you have the potential for regrowth during spring time.
Additionally, after the dust settles if you notice that your plants or palms are damaged, do not under any circumstances cut that ugly scorched looking foliage off. Just leave the plants or palms alone, after a few weeks, then reassess the situation. Many times, the real damage from hard freeze events is not detected for a few weeks as the plants start to photosynthesis or come back to life. Then and only then is the time to do the necessary pruning and fertilization in the hopes for regeneration.
We are praying that all of our beautiful communities green babies make it through this wild weekend unscathed.
Stay warm,
Hudaks horizons🌴
